LULYP was founded to principally serve the mission of the Louisville Urban League which is to assist African Americans, other minority groups and the disadvantaged to attain social and economic equality. It is an auxiliary of the Louisville Urban League and a member of the National Urban league Young Professionals (NULYP) which consists of 55 chapters with 10,000 members nationwide. Founded in September 1999 and formerly organized in January 2000, LULYPs mission is to promote social and economic empowerment in Louisville Metro through personal development and community involvement.
LULYP membership compromises a wide range of emerging leaders between the ages of 21-40 in the areas of law, healthcare, education, transportation, government and business. It reaches approximately 300 local professionals and more than 500 metro Louisville residents annually.
LULYP promotes social and economic development through five empowerment initiatives:
Civic Engagement and Leadership.
Economic Development
Education and Youth.
Health and Quality of Life.
Civil Rights and Racial Justice.
These empowerment initiatives provide a vehicle that enables LULYP members to actively participate in local social, civic, and economic issues. LULYP hosts a number of seminars and community events that spark awareness about issues affecting local professionals and the Louisville Metro Community.
