  • In addition, LULYP published the LULYP Membership Profile Book, which markets the professional talents of the members to local corporations and businesses.

    Economic Development

LULYP assists LUL in promoting economic development in Louisville Metro by hosting events that focus on financial literacy, home ownership, and real estate investment. Recent programs include Sponsoring at least three (3) professional development programs each year that inform LULYP members about personal finance, real-estate investments, and credit management.

LULYP also recognizes the growing trend in urban entrepreneurship; therefore, the auxiliary established the LULYP Entrepreneurial Series, which addresses the following topics:

  • Creating entrepreneurship vehicles, such as franchising and investment real-estate.
  • Starting a new business.
  • Securing start-up capital and operating funds.
  • Understanding and developing mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships.

  • The LULYP Entrepreneurial Series promotes networking opportunities between new entrepreneurs and community business leaders.

    Youth and Education

LULYP encourages its members to play an active role in the lives of local youth and young adults. The auxiliary commits its time and resources toward mentoring local youth and young adults who have the determination and aspiration to excel academically, while being a role model within the community. As a result, LULP provided:

  • 100 service hours annually towards mentoring youth through the National Urban League Incentives To Excel and Succeed (NULITES) Initiative.
  • Approximately 30 service hours to other local youth organizations, such as Youth Alive and Clothe-A-Child.

    Health and Quality of Life

LULYP promotes the Health and Quality of Life Initiative in order to eliminate the health disparities among local urban men and women. Recent accomplishments include:

  • Hosting and contributing over 100 service hours towards Saving Our Last Nerve: A Healthy Guide to Living, a conference aimed at bringing awareness to the effects of depression and anxiety in the African American communities.

  • LULYP recognizes that a healthy mental, physical, and emotional state is essential to producing efficient and effective leaders.

    Civil Rights and Racial Justice

LULYP assists LUL by educating and encouraging Louisville Metro residents to exercise their civil rights in order to influence government and politics. This is accomplished by:

  • Hosting civic forums that inform local urban residents about political and civic issues affecting predominately African American neighborhoods and the broader Louisville Metro Community.
  • Contributing over 200 hours of service assisting other urban groups with voter registration in predominantly African American neighborhoods of Louisville Metro.

  • As a result of the dedication and support of LULYP, a number of local disadvantaged and unrepresented citizens are actively engaging in civil rights policies and issues that affect Louisville Metro and its residents.
